Neil Golemo

Neil E. Golemo hails from Hamilton, Illinois, and has proudly served Texas A&M University’s Galveston Campus for the last 15 years. Starting in 2006 as the sole Housing Coordinator on campus, overseeing 600 beds, Neil has been blessed to see the campus grow to one that is truly residential, adding 3-5 Residence Halls containing 1450+ beds, numerous offices and classrooms.   Now serving as the Director of Campus Living & Learning, Neil’s portfolio includes all Housing, the Office of Community Standards, Honor Code, and the campus pantry.  Neil also serves the University as a principal on the campus Accreditation Steering Committee, as well as a lead on the committee for the Student-Affairs division-wide implementation for the curricular approach.  Neil describes himself as a “proud Baylor Bear” (’04, ’06), but enjoyed “making Aggies” so much that he decided to become one (he completed his PhD. coursework at Texas A&M in the summer of ’21 and is now working on his dissertation).  Neil and his partner, Monica, are the proud parents of Hattie (8), Hazel (6) and Abe (a beagle who turns 12 in February).  Neil wears a lot of hats, but the one thing that connects them all is that he is allowed to be a part of the living and learning of beautiful human beings, himself included.

Favorite superhero:
Neil has been a comic book nerd “before it was cool, and will still be one when it isn’t anymore.” “Spider-Man” was his first love, but has really come to appreciate Jason Aaron’s run in Thor, and will read anything Jason Aaron or Michael Bendis writes.  Ta Nehisi Coates’s Black Panther run was the most unique interrogation of colonialism that anyone has ever attempted.  The new superheroes out there such as Ms. Marvel and Ironheart have been done SO well and are SO good.

Superhero name:

"I like playing with various pantheons, so I think I would go with Demeter? Or a play off of that?  I’d love to have the super-power to increase a harvest or bless a hearth and home.  I’d love to have the ability to just help people meet their needs.  Also, I really love to cook, so my alter-ego could be as a chef or one who runs a pantry/charity.  That could be awesome.  Like Jose Andreas!"
